St. John’s Wort Infused Mead or Herbal Tea

St. John’s Wort is traditionally gathered around Litha for its healing and protective qualities. Mead was a popular ancient drink, but you can also make a refreshing herbal tea.

For Herbal Tea:

  • Dried St. John’s Wort flowers (1 tsp per cup)

  • Boiling water

Steep flowers in hot water for 10 minutes, strain, and sip mindfully.

For Mead (Ancient Honey Wine):

  • 1 cup honey

  • 4 cups water

  • Wild herbs (St. John’s Wort, rosemary, thyme)

  • Yeast (natural or brewing yeast)

Mix honey and water, add herbs, and allow to ferment in a clean vessel for several weeks. (This is more involved but was cherished as a sacred celebratory drink.)
